So proud that my son survived 13 years of homeschooling. Did he ever want to attend traditional school? Nope! He trusted that homeschooling was a much better deal for himself. Homeschooling allowed him many privileges. For one, he developed marketable skills in 3-D modeling and engaged in freelance gigs. Read how he learned computer generated arts at home on his own: How My Kids Learned CG Art Skills.
Homeschooling gave him the time discover a passion for rebuilding vintage Volvo engines. At the age of 16 he bought his first Volvo which did not run. Now it’s his daily driver. A second Volvo was sold for profit and a third sits in the driveway awaiting an engine swap.
He also developed classical and jazz piano skills. Shout out to Triangle Youth Music in Raleigh, NC for providing jazz bands and traditional orchestras for local youth.
Throughout high school my son spent one weekend a month on retreats with Crosswave Celebration Arts team spreading the gospel through music and drama. During the summer of 20224, he traveled with Crosswave to Peru and performed in schools and on the streets of Lima and Oxapampa.
Homeschooling gave my son the opportunity to earn early college credits by CLEP exams starting in the 8th grade. Read how to get started in CLEP exam preparation. He also earned early college credits at Wake Tech community college starting in the 11th grade. In total, he earned 56 college credits before graduating high school. The hard work and extracurricular activities, especially the Volvo projects, paid off. My husband and I are proud that our son was accepted into the engineering school at North Carolina State University. He will begin classes as a freshman in the fall of 2024. Go Wolfpack!
Congratulations, Adam! We are so proud of you!
